Shambarger

New leadership is coming locally to BB&T, the Fredericksburg area’s largest bank by customer deposits.

The Winston-Salem, N.C.-based bank announced Thursday that Nate Wood is the new area executive for the Fredericksburg market, which includes the city and Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George and Westmoreland counties.

Wood succeeds Andrew “Drew” Shambarger, who has been named BB&T’s area executive for Huntsville, Ala. Shambarger, a well-known member of the local business community, will work with Wood in the transition until he relocates to Alabama the first week of March. He called his decision to leave Fredericksburg “bittersweet” but said he has a great opportunity in Alabama.

Wood and Shambarger have both been with BB&T locally since 2006. Wood has been working as a commercial banker.
