Riverbend and Chancellor high schools held a drill today in cooperation with the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office. There was no emergency.
Below is a statement issued by the division today.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As part of our partnership with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, we routinely conduct emergency drills and searches of our schools. Today, February 3, 2012, Riverbend High School and Chancellor High School Administration, in cooperation with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a routine search of the schools. As part of this drill, the school goes into a lockdown status. The Sheriff’s Office utilized their K-9 Unit to assist in the search that included student lockers, locker rooms, some class rooms, and the parking lot. The dogs that were utilized during the search are trained to respond to either drugs or weapons. The drill/search was completed with minimum interference to instruction.
We appreciate your support in providing your children a safe environment to learn. If you have any questions about this drill, please contact your child’s school.
