Redskins tight end Fred Davis was an hour late to practice this afternoon because he was in Loudoun County General District court to plead guilty to two misdemeanor charges that stemmed from separate incidents earlier this year, court records show.
Davis pleaded guilty to falsely identifying himself to law enforcement, a charge that stemmed from a May 7 incident. He received a 30-day suspended sentence and was fined the maximum $2,500, plus $116 in court costs, according to court records. A charge of driving under a suspended/revoked license was dropped today.
Davis also pleaded guilty to a charge of driving under a suspended/revoked license, which he faced after being pulled over on April 7 for going 52 mph in a 35 mph-zone. He was given a 10-day suspended sentence, the maximum $2,500 fine, plus $116 in court costs. Also, his driver’s license was suspended for 90 days. The speeding charge was dropped today, records show.
Attempts to reach Davis’ attorney, Jane Reynolds, were unsuccessful after business hours. Davis and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said today that Davis was late to practice for personal reasons.
Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie declined to comment tonight.
Court records show that Davis has a checkered driving record. He has been charged with at least seven moving violations in Loudoun and Fairfax Counties since July 2008. He also has faced such charges as having a tinted or smoked windshield and operating an uninspected vehicle. The Redskins drafted Davis in the second round in April 2008.
He was pulled over in Fairfax County as recently as Aug. 7 and charged with reckless driving/driving 20 mph over the speed limit. According to court records, he has a court date scheduled for Sept. 14, a Tuesday–which is usually an off-day for players during the season. It’s a Class 1 misdemeanor charge that carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail and/or a $2,500 fine.
Davis was an hour late to practice, which was moved from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. because of the storms that hit the area today. Davis’ court date was scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
