Ever on the lookout for trout-fishing opportunities, I came across this one today: The Caroline County Army post is having a trout-fishing tournament Saturday, Feb. 26, beginning at 8 a.m., at Beaverdam Pond. Mind you, these are stocked fish. (The pond is stocked with catchable trout during the winter months.) Two-person teams will compete for prizes (two $70 gift cards to Gander Mountain and a second-place prize of two, two-night stays in one of the  RVs at Champ’s Campground on base.) All anglers must register at the game check station beginning at 7 a.m. For more information or to pre-register, call (804) 633-8244. See general fishing regulations for Fort Hill here.

There’s lots of hunting and fishing available to the public at area military bases, which makes sense, since they typically have vast areas of undeveloped land  set aside for training.
