A new report shows that fewer white babies are being born than minority babies…which means someday Caucasians will not be the majority anymore. I think that’s probably a good thing. If everybody has to live and work with each other, there should be less hate and more understanding of each other.
Of course it’s not good for the GOP. Republicans cater to the white and rich. Our assistant editorial page editor told me that’s not true, as a lot of Hispanics vote Republican. Maybe in south Florida. But let’s check out the numbers from 2008. 67% of Hispanics voted for Obama. That’s two to one. Even in Florida Obama scored 57% of the Latino vote. Four years earlier Bush carried 56% of the Florida Latino vote. The GOP is even losing Cubans.
The GOP is not a diverse party. It’s been said that if there’s a black guy at a GOP event, he’s on the stage, because they’re definitely not in the audience. Republican positions on immigration is a detriment to them along with all their other positions that are important to minority voters. The GOP will have to change with the times, or die.

Eduardo Saverin, a cofounder of Facebook, took all of his money and renounced his citizenship and fled the country. Nice. He moved here as a child from Brazil, took advantage of our system and cashed out. I guess for him the entire country is one big casino.
This is Sunday’s cartoon and I meant to blog it already, but I had a busy baseball, cook out, Willie Nelson filled weekend.

A super pac supporting Mitt Romney planned to spend $10 million on ads in September depicting Obama as a metrosexual Abraham Lincoln and bring up the entire Jeremiah Wright controversy again. Mitt Romney, to his credit, said he was opposed to this plan…while also saying Obama was campaigning just as negatively. The super pac has now planned to scrap their plans. We’ll see what happens in September when things are a lot closer.
George W. Bush endorse Romney in a very lukewarm fashion. Romney’s campaign has zero plans to use Bush and I bet we don’t see him at the GOP’s convention. In fact, when referencing Bush, Romney won’t even say the guy’s name.
I don’t think Romney wants to remind voters that he wants to continue Bush’s policies, the same policies that created this economic environment he’s currently campaigning against.

Sure North Carolina was outmatched trying to out-homophobe the VA. Those amateurs made a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, despite it already being illegal. Fools! Six years ago Virginia voted for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage despite it already being illegal. Ha! You also didn’t count on our state senator Bob Marshall. He could teach you a class on homophobia…especially while running for the U.S. Senate.
The Virginia State Senate voted against approving a gay judge because the guy clearly wasn’t qualified. No, wait. That’s wrong. They voted against him because he’s gay. Now they say they didn’t vote against him because he’s gay as that’s discriminating…but they voted against him because of his gay lifestyle. OK…what?
Bob Marshall says we can’t trust the guy because he identifies himself as married to a man. Well, yeah…identifying yourself is one thing….establishing it legally is another. What a weak excuse to deny the guy a job, and deny the state his services.
Marshall also says he doesn’t deserve the job because he outed himself while being a fighter pilot in the Navy and disobeyed the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” rule. Yeah, we shouldn’t have anyone in government service who has convictions and stands up for what they believe in. They should all be like our state senators. Marshall also says he did the government wrong by coming out and the military had to spend millions of dollars on court cases against him. That’s like my editor when he said we wouldn’t have had all those abortion clinic bombings if abortion wasn’t legal.
I think Marhall and his colleagues are afraid if this guy becomes a judge, he’ll defy state law, marry himself to his partner and thousands of others and they’ll all camp out on Marshall’s lawn. Actually, I think I’d kinda like to see that.
More fun stuff on this issue from our illustrious governor Bob McDonnell. Guv Bob said we don’t discriminate against people for being gay, despite the fact that he himself took struck that designation out of state policy within his first month in office. I think you can be forgiven for saying one thing while doing another when you’re vying to be Mitt Romney’s Vice President nominee. I’m sure Mitt won’t notice one flip.
Now, back to that out-homophobing each other…we’ll see which state starts stoning homosexuals first. My bet is on Virginia if Bob Marshall is elected to the U.S. Senate.

I find it laughable that people who’ve been married MULTIPLE times talk about homosexuals threatening the sanctity of marriage. Sometimes I think people like Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich are actually covert agents for liberals. They’re a joke and conservatives aren’t in on it. No matter how stupid a comment is that’s made by Limbaugh, conservatives still eat it up and follow him. You’d think they’d find someone less ridiculous to idolize.
Come to think of it, Rush has been married four times and he wasn’t aware that women don’t have to take birth control every time they have sex. That either means he knows nothing about women despite being married four times….or that he thinks women have to take a pill each time they have sex because he has to take Viagra every time he has sex.

Spotsylvania is about to pass a law limiting the number of pawn shops in the county along with passing other regulations. They won’t be the first in the state to do so.
While they’re going to limit the number of pawn shops in the county to four, they will grandfather in those who are already operating, so basically three will have to shut down before a new pawn shop will open in Spotsylvania. I’m kinda mixed about that. As a musician, I love going to pawn shops to see what old junky guitar or amp I can get a deal on. I think I’ve discovered two cool deals in the past ten years…so it’s probably not going to affect me much.
The limit on stores isn’t upsetting pawn shop owners. The other regulations such as a photo of every seller and book keeping rules is what’s upsetting them. I don’t know if I’d want anyone taking my picture while I’m doing business, even if I’m not a criminal (I’m not, trust me).
This toon was planned for Friday, then pushed back to Sunday. Then my editor realized Sunday was Mothers Day and he likes to turn the editorial page into a Hallmark card on holidays, so the toon was rescheduled for Monday. Sunday, while making dinner with a friend for her mom, editor calls me to tell me he wants me to adjust the cartoon. That meant it ran today. Five days after it was originally going to run. By this point, I’m really tired of this one cartoon.
I had to adjust the figure speaking in the cartoon. I had a county supervisor. My editor said it was inaccurate because it hadn’t passed yet. He’s correct in that, but we always draw congressman, senators, state legislators, etc., while they’re considering something. Sheesh. Pick a day to get nit picky on me. But I bet that Mothers Day page was indepth.
Here’s the original version. I changed the background, because quite frankly after so many days I was tired of looking at it. I had to change something.

During the Clinton administration a lot of people called him our “first black president” based upon the assumption that he cared more about African-Americans than previous presidents. I supposed they totally forgot about Kennedy, LBJ or Carter. A lot of people unfairly called him our first black president because of his behavior, but mostly I think that came from black comedians. Now today, Newsweek comes out with a story on Obama being our first “gay” president. If you apply the Clinton standard to Obama, then Clinton was our first gay president as he also cared about their issues, though he didn’t come out in favor of gay marriage.
Clinton was NOT our first “black” president and Obama is not our first “gay” president (that was Reagan….I KID!!! I KID!!!). Caring about a select group of Americans does not make you one of them. I care about profiling and that doesn’t make me Muslim
On top of this story is the story of Romney being a bully in high school. A lot of conservatives are crying foul. They say it doesn’t matter about his past. Of course these same people care who preached to Obama and where he was born, what he ate as a child, what school he went to and whether or not his mom was a commie. That’s kind of a double standard being injected by our conservative friends.
A few more think the Romney story is a lie. Seriously, if it was a lie wouldn’t Romney deny it ever happened? I know I would. Acuse Romney of rape and see how he responds. Instead, he says he doesn’t remember but he’s so sorry and remembers the kid but not that he was gay….and really, Obama is the one who double speaks? Of course the story has five witnesses and that would probably back it up in a court…just saying.
Today, one of my conservative cartooning friends posted a cartoon with “yeah, maybe Romney bullied…but Obama did drugs.” Guess what, buddy. So did George W. Bush. Also, why do Republicans not understand false equivalence? Seriously? Yes, Obama did drugs in school…and he admits it. Romney can’t come clean on the bullying except maybe he engaged in a few pranks. Actually, the forced hair cutting isn’t so much of a prank as it is an assault and it’s shocking, shocking I tell you, that Mittens wasn’t kicked out of the boarding school. When Obama did drugs, he didn’t force someone else to do drugs. Mitt hurt others with his actions. And I love that tactic of “let’s not defend our guy…let’s point out something bad about their guy.” Yeah, good luck with that.
It’s kinda like the dog story. Romney CHOSE to put a dog on the roof of his…but Obama ate a dog. They fail to point out that Obama didn’t “choose” to eat dog. I know I didn’t choose everything I ate as a kid. False equivalance, people.
The bullying is bad. It’s terrible. But I wouldn’t hold it against Romney for a second if he was honest about it. We all did dumb stuff in school. Some people keep doing dumb stuff while running for the highest office in the nation.
There’s also talk about Romney and Obama’s parents and grandparents and how many wives they had. For both sides, so what? It wasn’t Mitt or Barack getting married multiple times. It’s not important. Just like the dog or bullying stories. It’s how you react to it now, not how you acted as a kid.
I also love that the Breitbart, Investor’s Business Daily and Foxnews crowd is trying to smear the journalism of The Washington Post.

A Tea Party favorite defeated longtime Indiana Senator Dick Lugar, who is no liberal, but is a moderate that can negotiate and compromise with Democrats. His opponent said “compromise is when Democrats do what Republicans want.” Nice!!! Maine Senator, Olympia Snowe, another moderate, is retiring because she’s tired of how divisive Washington has become. In addition to that, our own Senator, Jim Webb, is calling it quits and you gotta be crazy to call that guy a liberal. What? Current Senate candidate Bob Marshall called Webb a “liberal?” See?
In other news Mitt Romney bullied a gay classmate 50 years ago in boarding school. Mitt says he’s sorry for his prank that might have gotten out of hand. Let’s see, he broke into the guy’s dorm room, sat on top of him with his buddies and cut his hair while the guy was crying. Yeah, nice prank, Mittens. A prank is Saran Wrap placed over a toilet seat so your victim pees everywhere, not humiliating someone for being different. Mitt says he didn’t know the guy was gay because nobody was aware of that in the 60′s…which means there were a lot of gay people in the 60′s who didn’t know they were gay. I suppose “gay” wasn’t invented until disco came along.
Mitt has apologized for his “prank”…except I don’t know who he’s apologizing to because his victim is now dead (now, not from the haircut). Is he apologizing to America? Hell, I’m still waiting on him to apologize to his dog.
Mitt can’t admit something for what it is. Bullying is a “prank” and his dog enjoyed the multiple-hour car ride on his roof so much, he crapped himself. If you believe any of that from Mitt then you probably also believe the guy can relate to the average American because he’s currently unemployed.
By the way, I loved drawing the wedgie. I actually found an image of it in Google. Also, big thanks to Andi for helping pick the color for the lockers. High school was a long time ago for me, folks. All I remember from our lockers was that my buddies and I kept super gluing each others’ lockers shut. Now that’s a prank!

Here’s the rough.

This is the idea I was going to present to my editor until I saw the google image of some poor kid hanging from a locker by his underwear. Then I started over again with “yes!!! I gotta draw a wedgie!!! Yes!!! I get to explain wedgies to my editor!!!!” Funny enough, my editor was familiar with wedgies. Wonder if he knows what is a “swirly.”

This was my very first idea but I thought it was too boring and it made me think it was too much in the style of some boring cartoonists I know, so I quit. If a conservative cartoonist drew it, his or her fans would find it hilarious.

It’s not so shocking that Obama has come out in favor of same-sex marriage. It’s kinda shocking he is throwing caution to the political wind with his public support of it. We all know Obama has been in favor of same-sex marriage. He’s waffled on it and probably would have come out in favor of it after his reelection. But thanks to Joe Biden, Obama had to stop his “evolution” of the issue. There was never any evolution. The fact is, it’s tough to be in support of gay marriage and be elected president.
Now that he’s come out in full support of it, I don’t think it’ll hurt him that bad…except maybe with North Carolina. His “gay” support is about tapped out with contributing to his reelection, except to his flimsy super pac. Now they can contribute without any limits to his super pac…though not anywhere near the amount corporate billionaires can and will contribute to Romney’s super pacs.
But ya know, Obama FINALLY being honest might make a lot of other people “evolve” in their thinking in gay marriage. This is a civil and human rights issue. There’s no way gay marriage hurts anyone, threatens marriage, threatens the economy, our morals, etc. It’s really a stupid issue and way outdated to oppose. Why create legislation that takes away freedom or makes government larger? So many conservatives are threatened by Sharia Law and a religion writing laws, yet they use Christianity to do the same thing.
This entire thing came about thanks to Joe Biden. Some say it was a gaffe. Biden said he has no problem with gay marriage. That’s not a gaffe. That was his viewpoint and it forced Obama…out of the closet.

Here’s the rough.

I think every administration placates China. Clinton, Bush, Obama and everyone before those right up to Nixon. People think it’s because of the U.S. debt China owns. That’s an issue that bugs me. People talk about how much we owe China and it’s really not that much. China is the biggest foreign holder of U.S. debt. The majority of U.S. Debt is owned by the United States. Foreign governments hold 46% of public U.S. debt and China is the biggest holder with 8%. China is actually decreasing how much of our debt they own and Japan might overtake them.
There’s multiple reasons we placate China. We rely on them to be a rational friend to North Korea (their only friend). Their military is huge and we don’t want them threatening Taiwan and Japan. The hold a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council (which never seems to help us). Probably the biggest reason is the amount of trade we do with them. A fight with China would be bad for business.

Here’s the rough.
