The major forecast models still disagree with one another on the size of the precipitation area and timing of a surface low pressure system that will track just south of the Virginia / North Carolina border this weekend. Thus the chances and amount of rain the ‘Burg will see depends a lot on how broad the rain area becomes. This is the HPC forecast graphic showing total precipitation from Friday morning through Monday morning:
This graphic shows that we will receive a maximum of a quarter inch of rain from this system. Last night’s NAM forecast shows us getting very light precipitation while the NWS Sterling forecast calls for between a quarter and a half inch of rain for the ‘Burg. Given all of these predictions I think it’s safe to say that late Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning it will be wet but it will be all liquid.
Meanwhile today – Friday – we will see sunny skies and somewhat cooler temperatures than earlier this week with highs today reaching the low 50′s (F). The weekend will be a bit cooler given mostly cloudy and damp skies although I think we stand a chance at seeing a bit of sunshine early Saturday and in the afternoon Sunday. The cold air is still well to the north although we will likely be visited by some of it next weekend.
By the way, the forecast for Indianapolis for Super Bowl Sunday is for clear skies with a high of 47 and a low Monday morning of 29 degrees… in case you were wondering.
