Fredericksburg apparently is for retired history lovers.
The burg is profiled as a top retirement destination in the March/April issue of “Where to Retire,” a magazine geared toward helping people make retirement decisions. It will be available on newstands nationwide on Feb. 21.
In a feature entitled “8 Terrific Towns for History Lovers,” editor Mary Lu Abbott said the rich American history of Fredericksburg and the other locations lure retirees who have a passion to explore the past.
“Most of the fighting during the Civil War took place across the Dixie, where you’ll also find some of the nation’s best retirement towns, including Fredericksburg. Each town offers a unique perspective of the Civil War and ample opportunities for history buffs to share their knowledge as volunteers or continue their own studies of the war,” Abbott said.
Each year, 700,000 Americans relocate to new towns to retire. Generally, relocating retirees are healthier, better educated and more affluent than those who choose to not relocate, according to “Where to Retire.” They bring significant economic benefits to their new states and hometowns. Nationally, two dozen states and hundreds of towns seek to attract retirees as a source of economic development.
